Drilling rig

The derrick is a key component of the drilling rig equipment and is designed to perform the following functions:
  • handling tripping operations with drill pipes and casing pipes;
  • maintaining the drill string on the traveling system during drilling with unloading;
  • placement of a set of drill pipes and drill collars (DC) and thick-walled drill pipes (TBT);
  • accommodation of the traveling system and means of mechanization of tripping operations, in particular, the mechanisms of the ASP, KMSP or the platform of the mounted worker, the emergency evacuation device for the mounted worker, the top drive system and auxiliary equipment.
Drilling rigs are classified:
  • by purpose – for well workover units;
  • for mobile (mobile) drilling rigs;
  • for spray and stationary;
  • for offshore drilling rigs;
  • by design – mast and tower.

Mast towers are: A-shaped, U-shaped, 4-support and with an open front edge.
