Absorptive mini-booms

Products Description

ECONAD Absorbent Mini-Booms are compact sorbent barriers designed for the collection of oil, petroleum products and other compatible hydrocarbon-based liquids from wastewater, drainage systems and contaminated surfaces.

The mini-booms consist of durable polymer mesh sleeves filled with hydrophobic and oleophilic ECONAD biosorbent or polypropylene fibres. Their compact size makes them particularly suitable for drains, stormwater systems, industrial wastewater treatment and other confined areas where conventional absorbent booms may be too large.

Industrial Wastewater Treatment

ECONAD Absorbent Mini-Booms can also be incorporated into industrial wastewater treatment systems.
They can be positioned in settling tanks, collection chambers and other treatment stages to help remove residual oil and petroleum products from the water surface.
The compact size allows them to be used in areas where larger absorbent products would be impractical.

ECONAD Absorbent Mini-Booms are suitable for:

  • Industrial wastewater treatment
  • Stormwater drainage systems
  • Storm sewer protection
  • Oil-contaminated water collection
  • Industrial settling tanks
  • Drainage channels
  • Maintenance areas
  • Workshops and production facilities
  • Oil terminals and fuel handling areas
  • Emergency spill response

They can be used both as a preventive measure and as part of an active spill-response system.

The absorbent filling selectively captures oil and petroleum products while helping minimise unnecessary water absorption.

ECONAD Absorbent Mini-Booms can be used for:

  • Oil
  • Petroleum products
  • Coolants
  • Solvents
  • Other compatible hydrocarbon-based liquids

The flexible construction allows the mini-booms to be positioned directly where contamination accumulates.

One of the main applications of absorbent mini-booms is the protection of stormwater and drainage systems from oil contamination.

The mini-booms can be placed:

  • Inside drainage channels
  • Near stormwater outlets
  • Around drains
  • Inside collection chambers
  • At wastewater discharge points

This helps capture floating hydrocarbons before they move further through the drainage system or enter the environment.

The filling material is designed to attract and retain hydrocarbons.

Its oleophilic properties promote absorption of oil and petroleum products, while hydrophobic characteristics help reduce unnecessary water uptake.

Depending on the selected configuration, the mini-booms may be filled with ECONAD biosorbent or polypropylene fibres.

The absorbent filling is enclosed within a durable polymer mesh sleeve.

The mesh:

  • Maintains the shape of the mini-boom
  • Allows hydrocarbons to reach the absorbent filling
  • Simplifies handling and removal
  • Provides flexibility for use in confined spaces

The lightweight construction allows the product to be installed and replaced manually.

With a standard length of 500 mm, ECONAD Absorbent Mini-Booms are specifically designed for applications where compact dimensions are important.

They can be positioned individually or several units can be used together according to the size of the contaminated area and required absorption capacity.

No specialised equipment is required.

The mini-booms can be placed directly into the contaminated area, drain or treatment chamber and removed once saturated.

Their low weight and compact dimensions make routine inspection and replacement straightforward.

ECONAD Absorbent Mini-Booms can be used together with:

  • Oil absorbent sheets
  • Oil absorbent rolls
  • Oil absorbent mats
  • Absorbent booms
  • ECONAD biosorbent
  • Spill containment equipment
  • Drain protection systems
  • Oil spill kits

This allows the products to be incorporated into a complete industrial spill-control or wastewater-treatment solution.

  • Compact Size: Designed for drains, wastewater chambers and confined areas where larger absorbent booms cannot be conveniently installed.
  • Selective Oil Absorption: Hydrophobic and oleophilic absorbent filling efficiently captures oil and petroleum products.
  • Two Standard Capacities: Available with approximately 5 L or 8 L sorption capacity per unit.
  • Stormwater Protection: Helps prevent hydrocarbons from spreading through drainage and storm sewer systems.
  • Wastewater Treatment: Can improve the removal of residual oil contamination from industrial wastewater.
  • Lightweight and Easy to Handle: Individual units weigh only approximately 0.4–0.5 kg, simplifying installation and replacement.
  • Flexible Application: Suitable for industrial, environmental and emergency spill-response operations.
