Boyan Slat
Boyan Slat, a 20-year-old inventor from the Netherlands, has developed an innovative system to clean up oceans of plastic debris!
The strong currents used to make it almost impossible to catch debris, but Boyan’s idea is to build floating barriers on the surface of the water, which will remain motionless thanks to the anchors.
The ocean currents themselves will bring debris into the networks of these barriers.
Garbage collection networks with a total length of more than 100 kilometers will be able to clean the ocean from 42% of garbage (more than 70,320,000 kg of plastic waste) in 10 years. After passing various tests, this cleaning system has shown that the nets catch all debris, regardless of its size, and living organisms are able to avoid falling into the platform on their own.
And thanks to the Econad company, the ocean can also be effectively cleaned of oil and oil waste!
