  1. 1870 – the first experience of creating an oil monopoly.
  2. 1877. For the first time in the world, Russia is starting to use tankers to deliver oil from Baku fields to Astrakhan.
  3. 1886. German engineers Karl Benz, Wilhelm Daimler created a car powered by a gasoline engine.
  4. 1905. The first large-scale fire in non-oil fields occurred in Baku.
  5. 1908. First oil fields discovered in Iran.
  6. 1951. For the first time in US history, oil has become the main source of energy, pushing coal into second place.
  7. 1959. The first attempt to create an international organization of oil suppliers.
  8. 1967. Six Day War between Israel and a coalition of Arab states. World oil prices rose by about 20%.
  9. 1969. The first major environmental disaster caused by an oil spill. The reason was an accident on an oil platform off the coast of California.
